John Marshall alcm, llcm, bmus.

John Marshall is one of Scotland's most popular tenors with over 35 years of experience on the stage and concert platform.

Whilst at school, John was chosen as Edinburgh secondary schools' concert soloist in 1985. This performance fuelled a passion for singing and performance. As a teenager, he joined the Edinburgh Choral Union and the Scottish Chamber Choir, where he was given solo roles. He then decided to study singing at Napier University under Andrew Doig, where he won the singing prize two years consecutively.

Continuing his studies at the RSAMD, he took part in many opera performances and masterclasses in which high praise was given by Benjamin Luxon and Dame Gwyneth Jones.

Having sung operatic roles for companies such as English National Opera, Scottish Opera, London City Opera, and others around the world, as far as Manus, Kuala Lumpur and all over America. He has collaborated with great conductors and directors, Sir David Wilcox, Sir Alexander Gibson, Edward Gardiner, Hal Prince, and Sir David McVicar, to name but a few.

On a lighter note, he has danced with Alan Rickman and Vanessa Redgrave, made Bruce Willis laugh and has sung for the prince of Denmark and our current king.

As music director of OEL, he has overseen the company's growth in both chorus and audience size. He has conducted numerous concerts and operas, including Don Giovanni, L'elisir d'amore, La belle Helene, Iolanthe, Nabucco, Trial by jury, as well as many dramatic oratorios.

As guest conductor he has led professional charitable concerts of The Faure and Mozart Requiems around the country.

On a lighter note, he has danced with Alan Rickman and Vanessa Redgrave, made Bruce Willis laugh and has sung for the prince of Denmark and our current king.
